14 Month Old Favorite Things (Toys, Shoes & More)

Fourteen months in, and my toddler has officially become my sous chef, laundry assistant, and dishwasher unloader — handing me plates from the bottom rack, closing the dishwasher door like she’s done it a hundred times (she has), loading her own dirty clothes into the hamper, wiping down her high chair after meals, and putting her water bottle back in its spot on the coffee table without being asked.

All that independence has made me pay closer attention to what’s actually holding her attention — and what’s actually getting worn and used — when she’s not “helping.” So here’s the honest rundown of 14 month old favorite things at our house right now: not what’s sitting untouched in a bin, what she goes back to on repeat.

Her Favorite Toys, Ranked By How Often They Get Used

Fisher-Price Little People Farm Playset

This was a hand-me-down, and honestly? I wanted to hate it. It’s big. But she goes back to it again and again, completely obsessed with moving those little animals in and out. Sometimes the “too big” toy is the one that earns its space.

Baby Tissue Box

We actually have the Lovevery wooden version too (another hand-me-down, only sold as part of a set), but this one does the exact same job for a lot less. Pulling the “tissues” out never gets old, and the box itself turns into a hiding spot for other toys — one object, endless play.

Baby Einstein Magic Touch Piano

She started out just pounding on the keys. Now she’s figuring out how to slide the cards into the slot. I love a toy that grows with them instead of getting outgrown in a month.

Radio Flyer 4-in-1 Trike

We use this every single day. The second she’s in it, she’s steering her own life — so much more freedom than being strapped into a stroller, and she knows it.

Water Table

Another hand-me-down, and if I’m honest, the size alone would’ve talked me out of buying it myself. But this thing is a lifesaver — nothing else holds her attention this long, and it got us through more than one 100-degree day this summer. (I did spring for a cover — worth it just to skip changing the water out daily in summer, and it keeps leaves and bugs out year-round.)

Shoes, Montessori Wins, and Everyday Favorites

Montessori Shelves

We have two of these plus a corner unit, and I’d buy all three again. Everything sits at her height with its own spot, which is the entire reason “put toys back on shelf” actually works around here — she can reach every bin herself. (The corner unit isn’t on Amazon — it’s from OOOK directly, but it’s the piece that made the whole setup actually fit our space). I owe a separate post on our setup soon!

Stride Rite 360 Sandals

These win most days — real support, good grip on the bottom, and bonus, she’s already learning to get them on herself. We also like these shoes for another option.

Sleeveless Onesies

You can’t beat the price for a 3-5 pack, and they’re effortlessly cute — which is exactly what you need when it’s 100 degrees and getting a squirming 14 month old dressed feels like a full workout.

Dr. Brown’s Sippy Straw Bottle

Sippy cups at this age are a black hole of options and none of them are perfect. A friend handed us these and they stuck — no leaks when she sets it down herself on the coffee table, and the cover makes it easy to toss in a bag when we’re out. Not forever, but it’s working for now.

That’s the real list of 14 month old favorite things at our house — heavy on hand-me-downs and honest opinions, light on anything that’s just sitting there.

Next up on deck to try: self-serve snacks, cutting her own banana, and rinsing fruit at her toddler table.
